CLASSIFICATION FCIGroup 4 Dachshunds

BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY:Dachshund (Dachshund, Dackel, or Teckel) has been known since the Middle Ages. Among the hounds, dogs constantly appeared, especially suitable for hunting underground. From these short-legged individuals came the dachshund, recognized as one of the most versatile and successfully used breeds of hunting dogs. She also works excellently on the surface of the earth, driving with her voice, searching for and tracking wounded animals. The oldest dachshund club, “Deutsche Teckelklub” e.V. It was created in 1888. For decades, the dachshund was bred in three sizes (dachshund, miniature dachshund and rabbit dachshund) and in three varieties of coat (smooth-haired, wire-haired and long-haired).

In the photo: dachshund

GENERAL FORM: Squat, short-legged, elongated, but compact in structure, very muscular, with a daring, defiant head landing and an attentive expression. Sexual dimorphism is well expressed. Despite her legs, short of a relatively long body, she is very mobile and flexible.

IMPORTANT RELATIONS:The lower point of the chest is above the ground at a distance of about 1/3 of the height at the withers, the oblique length of the body should be in harmony with the height at the withers, about 1.7 - 1.8 to 1.

BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT:By nature, friendly, not nervous, not aggressive, with a balanced temperament. Passionate, viscous and tireless hunting dog with excellent instinct.

HEAD:Elongated when viewed from above and in profile. Tapering evenly to the nose, but not pointed. The superciliary arches are clearly defined. The nasal cartilage and the back of the nose are long and narrow.

CRANIAL BOX: The skull is rather flat, gradually turning into a slightly convex back of the nose.

Transition from forehead to muzzle: Only marked.

FACIAL REGION: Nose: Well developed.

Muzzle: Long, quite massive. Able to open wide to eye level.

LIPS: Tight, well covering the lower jaw.

JAWS AND TEETH: Well developed upper and lower jaws. Scissor bite, uniform and with a stable closure. Ideally, a complete set of 42 teeth in accordance with the requirements for a dog’s mouth, with healthy fangs, precisely fitted to each other.

EYES: Medium-sized, oval, set wide, with a clearly energetic but friendly look, not piercing. Shiny, dark reddish-brown to blackish-brown with all colors of the shirt. Partially or completely blue, whitish (fish or pearl) eyes in marble dachshunds are not desirable, but can be tolerated.

Ears: Set high, not too far forward. Long enough, but not exaggerated. Rounded, not narrow, not pointed and not folded. Movable, leading edges adjacent to the cheekbones.

NECK: Sufficiently long, muscular, held high, flexible. Tight skin on the throat. Slightly convex scruff.

BODY: Top line: From the neck blends harmoniously with the slightly sloping croup.

Withers: Pronounced.

BACK (from the withers to the Macloca): The top line behind the high withers stretches from the thoracic vertebrae directly or slightly drops. Strong and muscular.

LOIN: Very muscular. Long enough.

CROUP: Wide and long enough. Slightly sloping.

CHEST: The sternum is well developed and protrudes in such a way that minor depressions appear on its sides. Seen from the front, the chest is oval. Seen from above and from the side, it is spacious, providing plenty of space for the heart and lungs. The ribs are well laid back. With the correct length of the scapula and humerus and the corresponding angle between them, the front leg when viewed from the side closes the lowest point of the sternum.

Abdomen: Lightly matched.

TAIL: Set not too high, held in continuation of the top line. Saber is allowed.

Limbs

FRONT END:

General view: The limbs are very muscular, with pronounced angles of the joints. Seen from the front, dry forelegs, standing straight, with a very strong skeleton, legs are directed straight forward.

Shoulders: Stretch muscles. Long sloping shoulder blades close to the chest.

Shoulder bones: Equal in length to the shoulder blades, with which they form an angle of almost 90 °. With a strong skeleton and muscular, they fit tightly to the ribs, but move without interference.

Elbow: Directed strictly back.

Forearm: Short, but of such a length that the distance from the body of the dog to the ground is about 1/3 of the height at the withers. Direct as possible.

Wrists: Located slightly closer than the shoulder-blade joints.

Pasterns: When viewed from the side, they should not be steep or clearly inclined.

Forefeet: Toes in a lump, well arched, with healthy, strong, puffy pads and short strong claws. The fifth finger has no functional value, but should not be removed.

REAR PART:

General view: The limbs are very muscular, in the correct ratio to the front. The angles of the knee and hock are expressed. Hind legs set in parallel, neither narrow nor wide.

Hips: Must be of good length and muscular.

Knee joints: Massive and strong, with well defined angles.

Shins: Short, with an angle of about 90 ° with the hips. Muscular

Hocks: Dry, with strong tendons.

Metatarsus: Relatively long, mobile in relation to tibia. Slightly sloping.

Hind feet: Four fingers in a lump, well arched. Standing firmly on healthy pads.

GAIT / MOVEMENT:The movements should be spacious, smooth and energetic, with a sweeping step of the front legs not rising too much, and a strong push of the hind limbs should produce a slight elastic transmission to the dorsal line. The tail should be kept in a harmonious continuation of the back line, slightly lowered. The front and rear legs move in parallel.

LEATHER:Tight fitting.

SHIRT

SMOOTH

COAT: Short, thick, shiny, smooth, firm and firm. Nowhere is a trace of bald patches.

Tail: Elegant, fully but not very richly dressed. A slightly longer protective coat on the underside of the tail is not a disadvantage.

COLOR:

a) Plain: red, reddish yellow, fawn, with or without black hair. Pure color is preferable, and red is more valuable than reddish yellow or fawn. Even dogs with a significant admixture of black hair are considered one-color, not in the category of other colors. White is not desirable, but single small marks do not disqualify the dog. The nose and claws blackdish-brown are also allowed, but not desirable.

b) Two-tone: Dark, black or brown, each with a reddish-brown or fawn tan (“Brand”) above the eyes, on the sides of the muzzle and on the lower lips, on the inside of the ear canvas, on the front of the chest, on the inside and back sides legs, also on paws, around the anus, extending from it to about one third or half of the lower part of the tail. The nose and claws are black in black dogs, brown in brown dogs. Tanning, too widespread, is not desirable.

c) Marble and tiger: In marble, the primary color is always dark (black, red or gray). Random gray or beige spots are desirable (large spots are not desirable). Neither dark nor light color should prevail. The color of the tiger dachshund is red or fawn with dark tigers. Nose and claws are the same as in one-color and two-color individuals.

HAIR

COAT: With the exception of the muzzle, eyebrows and ears, it is exactly the same tight-fitting, thick wire-like wool with undercoat. There is a clearly defined beard on the muzzle. Bushy eyebrows. On the ears, the hair is shorter than on the body, almost smooth.

Tail: Properly and evenly covered with tight-fitting hair.

COLOR: The color of the wild boar (wolf or murugy) is light to dark, as well as the color of dry leaves. Or the same colors that are described in the smooth-haired variety under a) -c).

LONG-HAIRED

COAT: A shiny shiny coat with undercoat that fits snugly on the body, longer on the neck and bottom of the body. On the ears, the hair should extend beyond the lower edge of the ears, forming a fringe. Pronounced scratches on the back of the legs. Reaches the greatest length on the underside of the tail, where it forms a real flag.

COLOR: As described for smooth-haired dachshunds in a) - c).
