The history of the breed munchkin - read here!
Munchkin breed history has very few years. Munchkins appeared not as a result of targeted selection, but as a result of a mutation. This happened at the end of the 20th century, when rumors spread about unusual cats with short legs.

Short-leggedness is explained by the presence of the achondroplasia gene. This gene is dominant, therefore, even if only one parent is short-legged, the likelihood of short-legged offspring is high.
In 1983, in the United States (Louisiana), a local resident picked up a short-legged cat on the street, which she considered underdeveloped. They called the short-legged Blackberry, and, having recovered from the life of a tramp, she found love for herself - an ordinary cat. However, to the surprise of the owners of Blackberry, all kittens were born short-legged. From them come the current munchkins.
The name of the breed is due to the book “The Wizard of Oz” - that was the name of the tribe of tiny little men.
